Hares: Dingaling, Overdue
But Not For You

A few months ago, Dingaling and I (and Sam the dog) recced (pronounced ˈre-kēd) a run that would take hashers along the very old stone village trail through Lam Kam Valley. Despite the short length of the trail, we failed. Impenetrable shiggy, especially a mammoth-sized fallen tree, blocked the path. “Let’s find a way through!” said Victim, determined as he always is, to press on despite the worst conditions. “No,” said Dingling, calmly and maturely, patting my shoulder in pity. “There is a fine run here, Victim,” and then he paused, “but not for you.” And so we abandoned our effort.
However, for the Northern New Territories Hash, Dingaling sent out into the woods a far more intrepid hasher than Victim – namely Overdue – who, armed only with a small axe and the determination acquired through many years of marriage and motherhood, somehow managed to clear the entire trail (!) including all signs of the huge downed tree.
These efforts by Dingaling and his SP produced a great evening run, with Victim naturally finishing last, closely preceded by Beer Tits, Dram, and Serbian Bomber (who felt Victim’s shouts of “Help; it’s dark” required some attention). Other hashers finished considerably earlier, taking pleasure rather than pain by running (did I mention it was dark?) over a trail distinguished by numerous twists and turns, several invisible, gaping holes, a moderate hill, and many beautiful stone stairs, lovingly crafted by Lam Tsuen villagers in the distant past.
Following the run, Plod presided over a lively circle ably assisted by Mango Groove (who did his spot-on impersonation of Stingray) and others. Golden Balls attempted futilely to maintain law and order until he was finally silenced by a quip to the head.
Among the hashers in attendance were Salesman, BJ, Dram, T-bird, Beer Tits, LSG, Serbian Bomber, G-Spot, Velcro Lips, Eunuch, Gunpowder Plod, Overdue, Dingaling, One Eyed Jack, Stingray, Mango Groove, Golden Balls and Golden Jelly. And one charming Hash virgin visitor, whose name I forgot but who shouted “trail” with the enthusiasm of a seasoned hasher.
